In My Mailbox (13)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme sponsored by The Story Siren.  It’s a way for bloggers to share what books they’ve received for review, borrowed from the library, or bought from the store.

This is an IMM full of about two weeks of fun stuff 🙂  I’d love to know what you have in your mailbox!

Received for my Students Want to Know feature:

My students are going to interview Charlotte Bennardo & Natalie Zaman about being authors and their debut novel Sirenz.  My kids are big fans of mythology, so this should be a fun read and interview!  Natalie sent me some cool stickers, super cute charms and a bunch of pins!  I’m passing these out to my students tomorrow, and I know they’ll be excited!  The interview with Charlotte and Natalie will take place in June, so come back and check it out 🙂

Amy Fellner Dominy is the debut author of OyMG.  She is incredibly generous and sent me some books she’s read so I can add them to my class library.  I took those to school already, but she sent us a few titles like XVI, The Looking Glass Wars and Feed. She also included some bookmarks, cool magnets and a discussion guide for her book since my students are interviewing her as well.  Amy’s interview will post on May 17th.

My students interviewed Bettina Restrepo, the debut author of Illegal, which posted on March 1st.  It’s a great interview, and as a thank you to my students, Bettina sent them personalized Illegal bookmarks, some Class of 2K11 bookmarks and stickers, and a couple of cute buttons to go with her picture book Moose and Magpie.  These just came in the mail yesterday, so I’m going to have some excited students tomorrow!

On April 25th an interview between my students and Amy Holder, the debut author of The Lipstick Laws will post.  Amy sent me bookmarks to give to all of my students, a bunch of cute stickers and an even cuter lipstick pen!  I handed out a bunch of the bookmarks on Friday, and the girls loved them.

In June my students will interview Elana Johnson about her debut novel Possession.  I just received the ARC the other day, and whoa am I excited about this one!  I love the cover.  And I know my students will be all over this one 🙂

A HUGE thank you goes out to all of the SWTK authors who have sent my students awesome swag and ARCs.  I can’t express how much they are appreciating this (myself included!).

For review:

Beck McDowell emailed me to ask about reviewing her book Last Bus Out.  It’s about a teenager, Courtney Miles, who rescued over 300 people in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  I just started it last night and it’s really good.  My kids love the idea of reading true stories, and since this is something my students can remember happening, I know they’ll enjoy this book.  I’m hoping to have it finished this week and I’ll post my review soon after that.

I ordered a copy of Exposed by Kimberly Marcus, which arrived yesterday.  I read and finished it yesterday, because WOW is it good!  And of course I bought a copy of Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins.  I liked Paranoid Park by Blake Nelson, so I bought a copy of his book Girl.

  1. You got nice swag this week! I liked The Lipstick Laws by Amy Holder and she does send great swag. I finished Demonglass this week. LOVED it!

  5. Awesome list this week! Lots of great swag for your kids, I know they’ll love it all! And you’ve got some great interviews coming up, can’t wait! Have a great week!

  6. Possession is one I’m really looking forward too – I’ll be interested to see what you think of it. Sirenz, OyMG, and The Lipstick Laws – all debut books that sound really good, too. I love this feature you’re doing with your students and the debut authors-maybe next year I need to get in on it with you-we could do a high school/middle school juxtaposition or something 😉

  7. Lots of goodies! Enjoy everything 🙂

I love comments!
