Waiting on Wednesday (1)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine.  It’s designed for bloggers to spotlight the upcoming releases that they simply can’t wait to read 🙂

This week I’ve been in more of a reading until I drop mood, than a let’s write tons of a reviews! mood.  I’m also really craving a Kimberly Derting novel!  I am in love with The Body Finder series, but we have to wait until Spring 2012 for the third (last?) book.  So I’m highlighting her other book coming out, even though it doesn’t release until November.  She is a fantastic writer, so I’m sure this book will be great!

My “can’t wait to read” selection is:

Title & Author: The Pledge by Kimberly Derting
Release Date: November 15, 2011 (This is right before NCTE/ALAN 2011! I wonder if she’ll be there…)
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry (Simon & Schuster)

Summary (From Goodreads): Words are the most dangerous weapon of all…

In the violent country of Ludania, the classes are strictly divided by the language they speak. The smallest transgression, like looking a member of a higher class in the eye while they are speaking their native tongue, results in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina has always been able to understand the languages of all classes, and she’s spent her life trying to hide her secret. The only place she can really be free is the drug-fueled underground clubs where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. It’s there that she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy named Max who speaks a language she’s never heard before . . . and her secret is almost exposed.

Charlie is intensely attracted to Max, even though she can’t be sure where his real loyalties lie. As the emergency drills give way to real crisis and the violence escalates, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country’s only chance for freedom from the terrible power of a deadly regime.

If you like mysteries & love stories, then I’m sure you’ll like her books. The Body Finder series makes me think of adult mystery novels for teens. I couldn’t put either of them down.
