My Favorite Books of 2011

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

I’ve read over 100 books in 2011 which includes a mix of young adult, middle grade, graphic novels, etc.  Creating a list of favorites is no easy task, but it’s also fun to look back at the books I’ve read.  I based my decision on the books that have stuck with me whether it’s because of strong characters, impressive writing, and/or deep emotional connections.  I can’t encourage you enough to read these novels!

P.S. Some favorites of 2011 I’m not listing because I read them in 2010, but they’ll be mentioned in my upcoming favorite debut authors post :)

In no particular order (because creating this list was hard enough!), here are my favorite books of 2011:

Everybody Sees the Ants by A.S. King (My Review) (Goodreads)

Something Like Hope by Shawn Goodman (My Review) (Goodreads)

Rival by Sara Bennett Wealer (My Review) (Goodreads)

Stupid Fast by Geoff Herbach (My Review) (Goodreads)

Warped by Maurissa Guibord (My Review) (Goodreads)

Where She Went by Gayle Forman (My Review) (Goodreads)

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins (My Review) (Goodreads)

Split by Swati Avasthi (My Review) (Goodreads)

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness (My Flash Review) (Goodreads)

But I Love Him by Amanda Grace (My Review) (Goodreads)

Comments

  1. A Monster Calls was such a powerful read – glad it made your list! It is definitely a memorable story.

  2. I’ve only read: Where She Went, Lola, and A Monster Calls, but loved all three of them which totally bodes well for the other books on your list. I want to read Split in particular because I heard there was an element of domestic violence to it so I thought that might relate to my job. Something Like Hope and Rival look really good too!

    • Mrs. Andersen says:

If domestic violence, or abuse in general, relate to your job then read Split and Something Like Hope.

    • Mrs. Andersen says:

Oh–But I Love Him deals with domestic violence (abusive relationships) as well. It’s told in reverse chronological order which is an absolutely powerful way of telling this story.

  3. I am a fan of Everbody Sees the Ants and A Monster Calls, too. Both are part of my Mock Printz Workshop books.

    My Top Ten Favorites

  7. love, love, LOVE Where She Went! It was a total tearjerker for me. :)

  8. I loved Lola & The Boy Next Door! It was so cute, quirky and entertaining. I really liked Lola, and I thought her character was fantastic. And Cricket has definitely made it hard for me to decide if I like him or St. Clair better ;)

    • Mrs. Andersen says:

I feel the same way. I think Cricket wins though, since it bothered me that St. Clair was still taken for most of the book.

  9. I loved Lola and Stupid Fast!!!!

    • Well, everyone knows how *I* feel about Stupid Fast. LOVE it. One of my favorites, too. Plus, boy book: BONUS points! :) Something like Hope has finally made it to the top of my TBR pile AND I get to present with Shawn at RTBF in May! #luckygirl!

  10. Barb Rheinhardt says:
